EVS Product Testimonial: R4 Race Collar

Please note that I quit racing MX in 2008 and from 2007-2008, I used a Leatt brace.  I got back to the dirt about a year ago, but it was to race harescrambles and cross country and I no longer have the Leatt.  The R4 has a little bar on the back of it to adjust how it sits on your back.  The instructions explain basically if you are a bigger guy to move it to the other hole.  I am a normal size so I left it in the stock location.  BTW, the main reason I got the brace is because it doesn’t have the bar like Leatt that runs down your spine (you can Google that controversy yourself and decide on your own).  First I tried the R4 on without the strap that holds it on your shoulders, and I can see that you WILL want to use it.  It will just fly everywhere without it.  Plus EVS recommends it because it’s safer that way.  No big deal because the strap is not very tight and I didn’t even notice it.  Putting the brace on at first was a little confusing because with my Leatt, I would put on my chest protector then the brace (because it didn’t need the strap).  Since the R4 uses the strap, I found that I had to put on the R4 brace first, then slip on my EVS F2 chest protector over it.  They work great together by the way, and its not a big deal to put on.  I put on my helmet with the chest protector and R4 and was checking it out in the mirror.  Having owned a Leatt in the past, I can see how this brace will limit the movement in a crash just the same.  It limits the perfect amount forward and side to side to help prevent injury, but not enough to limit any riding abilities.  Riding in the woods with this brace is a little bit different than MX because we have to look up at hills quite a bit more.  It does somewhat restrict the looking up part, but when I rode with it again a few days after my first ride, it didn’t bother me at all.  On my first ride with the R4, I will admit that at first the brace felt a little weird to me, especially since I had not worn one since 2008, and that was only for MX.  My first ride I felt really stiff and for some reason noticed that I was keeping my back straight instead of slouching (which is a good thing anyway), but that went away the next time I rode.  I can say without a doubt, the EVS R4 makes me feel much safer and it was a VERY good decision.  And for $120, you can’t go wrong!!

The R4 is available in one colorway (with four sold separate graphic options) and two different sizes (Youth/Adult).  With retail prices of $99 and $119, EVS ensures that purchasing this product won’t break the bank.

This is an exciting opportunity for both EVS and the karting world as it helps us to offer a whole new level of protection to karting fans.  If you have any questions, please call Cody Wolf at 888.873.8423.
