Chartier Motorsports made our way to Eagle River, WI last weekend for the 49th annual Amsoil World Championship. It was an exciting week as we departed home a few days early to make a stop in Amherst, WI to test and gain seat time. We greatly appreciate the Amherst Race Group for letting our team use the track.
As the championship chase started, our team struggled a bit with electrical problems forcing us to not qualify up to our capabilities. Friday Night Thunder was the beginning of the problems, losing the stator in the qualifier, and coil for the main event. Malcolm was able to scavenge up some points for the TLR Cup placing 8th.
Saturday was a much brighter day, after working on the champ sled until 2 a.m. Friday night to be prepared for racing. A new class that was debuting in Eagle River was the Factory 600 Class. In this calss you are able to run a champ chassis, with a completely stock 600 motor and pipe out of the Skidoo mxzx 600RS snocross sled. Having little seat and test time on the sled, the team looked great out of the box. Winning our qualifier, and pulling the hole-shot in the final to lead all the laps, Malcolm became the first Factory 600 World Champion. Working off this positive accomplishment, the team and Malcolm also qualified for the fourth year in a row in the Top Ten for the World Champsionship. Both of these achievements are hard to do with such tough competition at the derby.
Sunday could have gone a lot better and it could have gone a lot worse. With a horrible qualifying time, Malcolm was forced to line up for the World Championship all the way to the outside, in the 10th position, the worst spot for a start. This positioning caused #33 to have a bad start and poor visibility. Malcolm ended with a 7th place in the World Championship. While this isn’t the outcome #33 was hoping for he was still glad to come out of this healthy. He would like to thank the entire crew for all the hard work they ahve done over the weekend. The team rose above a lot of challenges throughout the weekend.
Chartier Motorsports is looking forward to this upcoming weekend as we will be visiting a new race track in Wausau, WI for the Flip Merwin 525 Championship.
