Follow the Leader!

(From Judnick Powersports)

Ross Martin remains the Pro Points leader by 12 even after some tough luck at the Silverdome in Pontiac, Michigan.

Ross won his first round after blasting out of traffic in the first corner and dominated the entire race! During the second round he got tangled up in a massive pile up which ultimately qualified him for the last spot in the front row for the Final.

In the Final he came from the outside position through the tight first corner way back in the pack. He hammered the throttle and artfully fought his way back to a 6th place finish. James Johnstad our Pro Lite driver delivered a 1st and 2nd in his qualifying rounds with a top ten finish in the Final. He moved up to 3rd in the Pro Lite Points race.

Scott Judnick said “The Silverdome is like no other venue. It is a spectacular show but the track is super tight & narrow making it tough to pass. We are stoked to continue to lead the Pro Year-End Points race and to have James move up in Pro Lite.”

“We would also like to send a shout out to Kyle from Renton Coil Springs for joining us at the track and to Craig, Doug, Ron & Nathan from Western Power Sports for sponsoring this event and joining us at the track. Your support is much appreciated!”

Catch the action from Silverdome, on Versus Sunday, March 11, 5pm EDT.

Races are broadcast live on www.xsan.tv or full clips on www.youtube.com/raceisoc

Our next race is the Vision Kia Eastern National in Farmington, NY- February -24-25. See you there!

Yamaha Wins 7 for 7 in Mercer!

(From Yamaha Motor Corporation, USA)

Pleasant Prairie, WI — Yamaha FX Nytro snowmobiles won a perfect seven out of seven Sport, Semi-Pro and Pro events they entered in a great day of cross-country racing in Mercer, Wis. on Saturday, Feb. 4. Proving the FX Nytro trail machine’s versatile performance in the rugged conditions were Yamaha snowmobile R&D engineer Andy Storbeck, who won the Sprint and Distance races in the amateur Sport category, Ben Lindbom, who swept the same events in Semi Pro, and Nathan Titus, who likewise topped both events in the Pro category. Making the day even better, Titus later teamed up with semi-pro racer Jake Jorgenson to win the team race, wrapping up Yamaha’s most successful cross-country weekend in years.

Thanks to varying weather and ground conditions, the long 7.5-mile course at Trude Lake proved an especially tricky one, giving the adaptable four-stroke FX Nytro a key advantage as the day progressed. While the course was run almost entirely on the lake surface, it featured speeds from just above idle to over 100 mph in some places – along with plenty of obstacles and challenges. For instance, the lake surface had packed snow atop thick ice, which sprouted whoops and berms as daytime temperatures climbed and an impressive 117 sleds tackled the course. At the lakeside, frozen marshland warmed up during the day to expose devious stumps and jumps. In some places, standing water atop the ice made the sleds look more like WaveRunners as they planed across it. And whenever the course reached a wooded peninsula, it went up and over, launching sleds high into the winter sky. In short, it was snowmobile terrain racing at its most demanding.

Racing started at 10 AM, with Sprint races scheduled for three to four laps apiece and Distance races slated for seven to eight laps each. Timing was old-school, with two sets of double horseshoe turns carved into the course so scorers could slow down and then record each sled as it passed. One by one, Storbeck, Lindbom and Titus started racking up Yamaha victories, ultimately amassing an impressive tally of six class wins, while freestyler Matt “Tinger” Tingstad added a Pro podium of his own on a borrowed FX Nytro after his rival two-stroke sled broke. The team race added a final dose of excitement as each driver, upon finishing their laps, parked their sled ran 15 yards through the staging area to tag the next driver. Titus drew the Yamaha team’s first leg, putting his FX Nytro into the lead over two laps and then making the sprint to tag Jorgenson. With daylight fleeting at that point, Jorgenson only got a single lap in before officials wisely waved the checkers. But that was enough to give Yamaha its lucky seventh win on a memorable day of cross-country snowmobile racing.

“This was the first full terrain race of the year, and everyone on the team was really excited to finally get on some snow to see how we stack up against the competition,” said Yamaha’s Eric Josephsen. “Sweeping every class we entered, including our engineer Andy Storbeck taking a pair of wins, validates all of the hard work and determination the team has put into this challenging season. It’s the most successful any manufacturer has been in a single weekend in recent years, and it proves that the performance accessories we’ve developed for the FX Nytro really work.”

Saturday, February 4th is our opening round of our series in Mercer, WI at the Hideaway Resort on Turtle Flambeau flowage.  As of today, there is 12 – 24″ of snow on the flowage and the wind has been building up drifts all over the lake so it will get rough.  Current course layout is just over 8 miles and we will be working to stretch it closer to 10mi.

Part of our goal with the series is to support the local communities that host our races and to give back.  At the Mercer race, the Mercer area high school senior class will be selling concessions (brats & patties provided by our sponsor Johnsonville) to raise funds for their senior trip to California in June.

In addition to fundraising for the local high school kids we are going PINK at the Mercer race in support of Andrea Myers participation with the WI Pink Ribbon Ride on February 17-18 in Eagle River, WI.  We will  be donating $1 from every race entry that day towards her fundraising efforts.  Every dollar she raises stays here in WI to provide financial assistance to both men and women diagnosed with breast cancer.  If you would like to donate to this program there is a link to her fundraising page on our homepage or talk to Andrea at the races.

Chartier Motorsports

(from Chartier Motorsports)

Chartier Motorsports made our way to Wausau, Wisconsin for the 525 Flip Merwin Championship. It was an exciting weekend with its ups and downs. Our team arrived Friday night just in time to wash off the rig and check out the new facility.

Saturday was rough, with poor starts Malcolm struggled to get into a good groove. He was able to qualify for the front row in the 7th position, not what he was hoping for. He had a bad start and struggled with visibility for the 15 lap final. #33 stuck it out strong and finished with an 8th place; we did not have as much top speed as the competition, along with Malcolm’s struggle for line choice.

Sunday we were optimistic, with a good night’s rest the team was determined to improve on our previous days results. Saturday night we put a game plan together and tried some other parts on the sled that we thought could help with horse power. Our plan worked, Malcolm came flying out of the gates in his qualifiers placing 1st, 1st, and 2nd qualifying 2nd in the front row for the final.  Our starts were great thanks to Mike Houle; after the start #33 came out of turn two in 2nd place. It was a great race up front, Malcolm rode smart with his line choice and made a few attempts to pass for the front but was unable to in the end. Malcolm finished 2nd for the day, only a sled length behind the winner.

After our poor start to the weekend, the team is very happy to put Team Woody’s / Mike Houle Racing / Skidoo on the TLR Cup Podium. A special thanks to all our great sponsors: Grace Performance, Hydro X, Tuzinwoski Landscaping, Ajax Paving, Fly Racing, DP Schweihofer, Pamar Enterprises, EVS Sports, and M.L. Chartier Inc.

Chartier Motorsports

(From Chartier Motorsports)

Chartier Motorsports made our way to Eagle River, WI last weekend for the 49th annual Amsoil World Championship.  It was an exciting week as we departed home a few days early to make a stop in Amherst, WI to test and gain seat time.  We greatly appreciate the Amherst Race Group for letting our team use the track.

As the championship chase started, our team struggled a bit with electrical problems forcing us to not qualify up to our capabilities.  Friday Night Thunder was the beginning of the problems, losing the stator in the qualifier, and coil for the main event.  Malcolm was able to scavenge up some points for the TLR Cup placing 8th.

Saturday was a much brighter day, after working on the champ sled until 2 a.m. Friday night to be prepared for racing.  A new class that was debuting in Eagle River was the Factory 600 Class.  In this calss you are able to run a champ chassis, with a completely stock 600 motor and pipe out of the Skidoo mxzx 600RS snocross sled.  Having little seat and test time on the sled, the team looked great out of the box.  Winning our qualifier, and pulling the hole-shot in the final to lead all the laps, Malcolm became the first Factory 600 World Champion.  Working off this positive accomplishment, the team and Malcolm also qualified for the fourth year in a row in the Top Ten for the World Champsionship.  Both of these achievements are hard to do with such tough competition at the derby.

Sunday could have gone a lot better and it could have gone a lot worse.  With a horrible qualifying time, Malcolm was forced to line up for the World Championship all the way to the outside, in the 10th position, the worst spot for a start.  This positioning caused #33 to have a bad start and poor visibility.  Malcolm ended with a 7th place in the World Championship.  While this isn’t the outcome #33 was hoping for he was still glad to come out of this healthy.  He would like to thank the entire crew for all the hard work they ahve done over the weekend.  The team rose above a lot of challenges throughout the weekend.

Chartier Motorsports is looking forward to this upcoming weekend as we will be visiting a new race track in Wausau, WI for the Flip Merwin 525 Championship.

Eagle River World Championship

(from Judnick Motorsports)

Jan.23, 2012- Lake Nebagamon, WI Our race fans are awesome and just a little crazy! It was sub-zero temperatures in Eagle River at the Eagle River Derby World Championship during the Friday Night Thunder. Temps were about 20 below without the wind chill and the snow dust was so bad you could hardly see. But thanks to our outstanding fans it was a blast!

Friday – Ross Martin won both of his Pro Rounds. In the Pro Open Final he hit major traffic in the first corner which left him completely turned around facing the other way when the carnage settled. Ross finally got his sled turned around leaving him way behind in like 10th position. Instinctively he just put the hammer down and flew around the track battling his way to a phenomenal 2nd place podium.

Saturday - After excellent rounds Ross was the top qualifier for Sunday’s World Cup Pro Open Final.Sunday - He had a great shot off the line but in an intense battle for first he took a hard off and just didn’t have time to work his way back up in a podium position before the final flag.

Friday – James Johnstad has truly earned a huge pat on the back. This is James first year moving up to the Pro Lite Class and he is raced like a champ. He qualified well and ran a phenomenal Final also capturing a 2nd place podium. He looked great on Sunday as well finishing 4th in the Final.

“James deserves kudos for not just meeting the challenge of moving up a class but exceeding our expectations this quickly. We are stoked to see him do so well! You will no doubt be hearing from him frequently this season.” said a very pleased Scott Judnick, Team Owner

Catch the action from Shakopee, MN, Canterbury Park on Versus Sunday, Feb 5th, 5pm EDT.

Our next race is the Vision Kia Eastern National in Farmington, NY- February - 3-4. See you there!
