RIDER SUPPORT

Slayco96 vs Epic Knee Guard

Not all knee guards are created equal because not all riders want the same thing in a knee guard.  Some prioritize maximum mobility and bike feel, while others want added structure and coverage that sits closer to a knee brace.

Two staple Knee Guards in the EVS lineup, the Slayco96 and the Epic, represent these different approaches to protection. Both are built to handle the unpredictable nature of moto, but they deliver protection in very different ways. Here is a quick breakdown on how the two compare.

The Big Picture

The Slayco96 Knee Guard is a hybrid design focused on mobility, airflow and comfort.  It uses soft, pliable materials in the knee cup that stiffen on impact, allowing the rider to move a bit more freely while still meeting CE Level 2 protection standards.

The Epic Knee Guard sits between a traditional knee pad and a knee brace. The brace-inspired chassis delivers more structure, coverage, and stability, making it a solid choice for riders who want a more locked-in, protective feel, but aren’t looking to go into a full knee brace.

Design

The Slayco96 is designed to move with the rider, and its low-profile, hybrid construction allows great feel for the bike with their legs and generally maintain a natural riding position. The inner knee sleeve offers some lateral stability, while the strategic airflow zones and a lightweight feel make the Slayco96 a great choice for longer motos or more active riding sessions.

The Epic borrows design cues from EVS knee braces, featuring an asymmetrical chassis and flex hinge system. Quick-release buckles and adjustable straps give it a more traditional guard look and feel, with an emphasis on coverage and security.

Construction

The Slayco96 is built around RMF (Reactive Memory Foam) technology, which remains soft and pliable during normal riding but hardens instantly upon impact. This is paired with molded bio-foam on the sides of the knee and Hexprene fabric to provide protection without sacrificing airflow or flexibility.

The Epic Knee Guard features a Form Fit Frame constructed from a proprietary Polyfusion polymer. This frame provides a strong yet flexible foundation, combined with a floating patella system and plush bio-foam liner for full shin and knee coverage.

Fit and Feel

The Slayco96 offers a close, flexible fit that feels almost like an extension of the leg. An additional inner sleeve adds support and stability, while strategically placed silicone TRAC GRIP elements help keep the pad in place without restricting movement.

The Epic delivers a more structured fit. The Form Fit Frame contours to the leg and provides a solid amount of support for not being a full blown knee brace.  Adjustable dry-suede straps and locking buckles allow riders to dial in a secure fit.

Application and Riding Style

Both pads are proven and will protect your knees, but your style of riding could help determine which one is best for you.

The Slayco96 is a favorite among freestyle MX, motocross, and dual sport riders who value mobility, airflow, and bike feel. It is ideal for riders who want protection that does not limit movement or cause fatigue.

The Epic is well suited for riders who want more coverage and structure without committing to a full knee brace. Trail riders, off-road riders, and those seeking added confidence from a brace-inspired design often gravitate toward the Epic.

Final Thoughts

The Slayco96 and Epic Knee Guard both protect your knees, but they do so with different priorities in mind. If freedom of movement and reduced fatigue are at the top of your list, the Slayco96 is hard to beat. If structure, coverage, and a brace-like feel matter most, the Epic Knee Guard delivers. The right choice is the one that matches how you ride and keeps you protected every time you swing a leg over the bike.
